Prospective members are welcome to come along to a couple of activities prior to committing to join HENCAST. This enables you to see what we do and to meet us!

Annual financial membership is from July to June each financial year. Pro-rata membership fees are available, for new members joining part way through the year.

HENCAST membership fees provide members with full insurance cover for HENCAST activities. This includes $20 million public liability insurance and volunteer accident coverage for members organising HENCAST activities (also covers students aged 12 and over organising an activity). As well as access to the member’s portal on our website, and of course our weekly activities.

Membership Fee

Annual membership fee:

  • July – June $60.00

Pro-rata membership fees:

  • October – June $45.00
  • January – June $30.00
  • April – June $15.00

The HENCAST Committee made the decision to increase the membership fee (for new and current members) from 1 July 2022. Over the past two years the committee has discussed increasing fees for membership, and it has now been decided the increase can no longer be delayed. HENCAST has not increased their fees for well over 10 years, and with the increasing costs for insurance and essential services it was decided at a general meeting on the 3 February, 2022, that an increase needed to be made. Membership works out to $5/month, which is paid in full at the beginning of the financial year.

What do I get for my annual HENCAST membership?

  • An interactive website where you can find a calendar of events, links to learning resources, HENCAST documents, and more as we update our website;
  • A weekly email (or two) from the Secretary about important information and what’s happening at the weekly meet-up (we generally meet-up during school terms, but occasionally during school holidays);
  • Our Constitution and Practice Manual are available on our website;
  • Contact with other local home-educators and their children;
  • Weekly opportunities to socialise and participate in activities (regular Thursday events);
  • Access to smaller and special interest groups;
  • A committee to oversee administration and enquiries, coordinate media responses, represent the group to the relevant state or territory government agencies (such as ACT Education Directorate and NSW Department of Education), implement and update processes, and more;
  • Public liability and volunteer insurance cover for all HENCAST members attending and organising events; and
  • The opportunity to organise an activity for all members to participate in. This could be to a specific place of interest, or it could be a learning opportunity where you work with your children to organise an activity to show case an interest of theirs, or their learning.
